EVALUATION QUESTION 1

When watching our media opening sequence automatically you can tell what gene it is, it is a thriller, you can tell this by the scratchy effects in the title and the sequence all the way through. Also by the eerie long-noted music, as well as the quick cuts in the sequence and still maintaining the scratchiness.
We have also chose to keep our murderer in the dark so you can not identify him yet, trying not to give to much away in the opening sequence and also to keep the creepy spooky thriller theme.
This carries many of the thriller/horror conventions.
Our title sequence also makes the viewers think about what is going to happen and why. So In theory we have questioned the viewers.
We haven’t showed too much and haven’t given anything away. On the other hand some viewers may disagree as we show a death in the sequence but we chose to show this because people who enjoy thrillers want to see a gory death because that’s what makes it a thriller and that’s why people watch it in the first place.


EVALUATION QUESTION 2

Our opening sequence ‘probability’ is aimed at 16 year old and over because of the scenes that may be inappropriate to young viewers.
The gender on the other hand is aimed at both sexes, but the murderer and the victim are both male and throughout the opening there is not one female, but we still aimed it for both sexes, this was just a coincidence.
Characters that we could link to our murderer would be the murderer in the TV drama series ‘messiah’ the reason for this is because that in messiah the murderer left a unique mark behind he left a silver spoon and we chose to leave a ace playing card, and also in comparison both killers are very precise and specific.

EVALUATION QUESTION 3

Our opening was produced on a very low budge, and only targets a small audience, so it is very unlikely that it will go straight to number 1 and will be a Hollywood must-see
So we can’t just jump to a multiplex big cinema.
Therefore we would have to promote it another way we came up with…
· The internet: to use a distributor such as I film ect which promotes the viewing of small budge internet films, however these are very expensive
· Posting it on websites: and just hope that our opening sequence gets noticed and viewed and also people talk about it and refer it, again this is a much cheaper version of promotion but won’t be as reliable.
I personally suggest we promote our sequence to a distributor and pay that bit extra therefore there is a higher chance of it being viewed and noticed.


EVALUATION QUESTION 4

Our target audience and my personal target audience will be for teenagers aged 16 to 25 year olds simply because of the type of genre we decided as well as the content of our opening, also this is the ages that we think people watch thriller/horrors
Our opening is mainly for the audience that love suspense creepy eerie visual scenes and that just adore that typical thriller style

EVALUATION QUESTION 5

To attract my target audience the main criteria were made up of the following…
Mise en scene, music, camera angles and casting
These are in order of importance (to my opinion)
Mise en scene, because without our props we would not be able to get this done, and make this look like an opening sequence.
Mise en scene is a major part to a film and is vital. We needed to rely on mise en scene a lot.
The music also adds suspense fear adrenalin to any movie without music there is nothing to a thriller/horror it’s the music that makes you edgy and uncomfortable, you watch a thriller/horror with the sound muted and tell me what the main key to a thriller is!
The camera angle was taken in to some consideration because we wanted to keep the murderer in the dark and we didn’t want to give anything away we wanted it to be like you were the killer one minute and the victim the next.
The casting we had planned from the very start of the making we knew it would be just us two. Because we can rely on one another and were always with each other and we knew we could get this done a lot quicker and didn’t want no hassle on relying on any1 else.

Throughout the filming of our title sequence I personally have learnt a lot about technologies, as it is the 1st time I have ever encountered anything like this before.
When we were planning for this we both said we would like to keep this plain and simple but also effective, so we used things like video cameras, tripods, lamp lighting, tables , fake blood, fake wounds ect.
I have learnt that for a thriller/horror to work, sound and lighting are the main areas you need to cover because with the wrong sound and rubbish lighting the opening or film will be a disaster u need to set the scene mood and atmosphere. Both of these areas are quite simple and easy to get grips with.
I know, that the knowledge I now know, will help me through my life with the media this will play a huge, huge part in my future production in the media.

EVALUATION QUESTION 7

Right from the start of this media course from the continuity piece all the way up until now I think I have learnt and now understand a great deal of things I have never imagined, varying from group work, to lighting, to editing and to continuity.
Continuity plays a big role in media /filming because with no continuity you get short, jumpy footage which is no good it is a big let down. It takes away the viewers focus off of your desired focus point.
Group work is important because if you choose to work in a large group you need to share ideas and thoughts which can cause frustration and arguments also you need to depend on more people and there’s more possibilities and more things to go wrong. However if you decide to work alone you need to make sure you know what your doing how to achieve these and also need to take note on who your going to cast whether it is yourself whether it is other people ect this is why we chose to work as a couple because I know I cant trust him depend and rely on him to get things done and viser verser.
I have also learnt the practical stuff such as just simply knowing how to use a camcorder, a tripod, a lamp properly. Because all of these things play a immense part in the media.
In conclusion i think i have a better understanding about the media and how it works.
